The Deep Maps: West Cork Coastal Cultures exhibition (July – November 2017) was curated by Dr Michael Waldron. It was situated in the Sisk Gallery of the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, University College Cork alongside the Now Wakes the Sea exhibition.

The exhibition was kindly supported by the Office of the Vice-President for Teaching and Learning, UCC . The Glucksman’s exhibition programme is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland and private philanthropy through Cork University Foundation.

During this period an extensive programme of curated events, talks, art courses and workshops took place. Taking visitors on a journey from traditional cartography through objects of cultural value and scientific inquiry, the exhibition facilitated the diverse ways in which we can experience, appreciate, and understand our cultural connection to this coastal environment.

The adjoining education space allowed for visitors, children, and school groups alike to draw on their own memories and perceptions of sea and coast and to respond to the exhibition in creative ways.
