The multi-disciplinary conference Sea, Land, and Spirit: Coastal Environment in the West of Ireland took place on 5-8 June 2017 in Dingle, Co. Kerry. It was organised by the Sacred Heart University in partnership with University College Cork, Cork Institute of Technology, and Institute of Technology Tralee.

The Deep Maps team joined this gathering of scholars and practitioners from a variety of fields to reflect on the coastal environment of the west of Ireland.

The conference offered a multi-disciplinary forum for scholars with a primary interest in the coastal environment as a shared national treasure to come together to increase their understanding, and to offer ideas and best practices to sustain the coasts for future generations.

Panel presentations included topics from the natural sciences, humanities and social sciences and considered past relationships with the environment, as well as more recent and future changes. Other topics included the effects of tourism and industry, and the human imagination and experience. The conference was an opportunity for leaders and practitioners to discuss current projects and opportunities. The Deep Maps team presented our project findings (see below).
