Ireland is an island nation, with a rich maritime heritage. This conference explored its seagoing past and culture, along with that of its European neighbours.

Breda Moriarty and Dr Rachel Murphy gave a presentation on the Deep Maps project, alongside other presentations which covered a range of topics including: the Vikings, piracy, the Spanish Armada, international trade, the Napoleonic War at Sea, island nations, emigration, port cities, the Lusitania and WWI submarine.

The Maritime History Conference 2017 was organised by Dr Hiram Morgan and Dr John Borgonovo, School of History, University College Cork. It was funded by the Irish Research Council’s New Foundations Scheme
